If you have worked long and hard to own a beautiful home, then you will also deserve a house sign that complements it. This sign was made of a good, thick slice of wood. I cut the corners off to help with the shape. The lower edge was cut straight and I left the bark on the upper. The customer chose the font for the hand-carved letters, and also decided to have a line cut above and below the name. When it came to colour the customer wanted a golden colour for the sign. Also, they felt that black lettering would be too stark and chose a chocolate brown. Because the sign was to be fixed outdoors I protected it with varnish. I made wooden plugs to cover the mounting screws. When a visitor looks for the house for the first time the sign is clear and legible. Every time the owners arrive home the sign is a warm reminder of the pride that they take in their achievement. Made and sold in July, 2004.
This house sign was made and sold in November, 2006. The wood is yew, the letters are black and the owners are pleased. In the website section about Smuntz Wood you can see the story of the making of this sign. |
